How do I prevent my cat from jumping onto the desk?

I do not like my cat is on the bench top or dining table. Any other ideas after chasing off! I know that she does when I'm in the room – though I closed the door to the kitchen, but she should be in the living room – in my dining table is what is the warmest room! Are there smells cats do not like that I can use or a form of "training" her? Thanks:)
