One of the gardening techniques that most confuses beginners and more experienced gardeners, is choppy. There is much discussion, muttering and shaking head over this process that has its origins lost in the mists of time. So what is it? In short, mulch is putting a thick layer of material on the soil around your plants. That's pretty simple, the debate comes when discussing the best materials, and has to be a matter of personal choice. Organic matter mixed soil in heavy clay or break and improve drainage and fertility. The same material mixed in light, sandy soil will help retain water and improve fertility. Inorganic mulches such as plastic shreddings, and stones or gravel will do little to the fertility of the land, but to help conserve water. One of the main reasons for using cover crops as an important gardening technique is that it retains the moisture in your garden, as water becomes a resource more expensive and scarce we have to get the most out of it. The natural increase in fertility of a soil with mulch and also saves on buying expensive fertilizers and added benefit of reduced weed not only save time and money but also a sore back!

Inorganic mulches are used not least from aesthetic point of view as they do little to improve soil structure in the long term, although help with weed control and water retention. You can use materials as plastic crushed gravel, geotextiles, gravel and landscape fabric. Organic matter is a reservoir of plant nutrients and provides a perfect environment for the worms and other beneficial soil organisms. Compost, well rotted manure, bark chips, shredded documents or even mixed with other materials are all good crops coverage. You can also use straw, hay, wood chips, leaves and grass, if the compost first and add extra nitrogen. Decaying leaves are an excellent fertilizer and can use grass clippings although, like paper, must be mixed with other materials and, preferably, composted a bit first. Straw makes a fantastic cover for the garden but watch out for weeds and often holds them. Mulch grinding is done either softwood trees or hard, it tends to bleach in the sun making an appearance uneven and messy. If mixed with cocoa shell that keeps it looking nicer but you should absorb any cocoa husk compost as it contains some of the products chemicals that can be harmful to pets if ingested in large quantities.

Mulch your garden is relatively easy. If you are using inorganic fertilizer then either follow the manufacturer's instructions or place a layer of an inch thick. Organic mulches should be about six inches in thickness as they decompose and disappear with astonishing speed, enriching the soil in the process. You will need to replace an organic fertilizer twice a year. It is important that the soil is warm when manure. The bacteria in the soil and mulch constantly releasing nutrients and if the temperature is too low this process will stop. Putting a good cover before that winter is set to reduce temperature changes in the soil that cause stress to perennial plants, so that thrive best.

The benefits of mulch are easy to see. The soil is kept healthy and has a constant supply of new nutrients released it gently to the rhythm of nature. It's much easier to a good layer of mulch over the garden to spend working hours in fertilizers. Weed control is easier outage causing cuts or die they do get through long legs and become weak and can easily be removed without affecting the roots of plants and crops. There will be spent nutrient either. The most beneficial effect is to maintain moisture when needed. Soil under mulch is usually cool and moist to the touch. You will not have that much water and maintains a constant environment of their plants, even in the summer months.

Cover crops can be bought, but good garden husbandry often will provide most of what you need, you can even compost all grass clippings, shredded paper mixed with them to make them a bit lighter. What you can not compost, crushed. Investing in a shredder soon will reward you. This simple technique garden and will save you a fortune to make your garden healthy and easier to handle.
