Glass Cutter

vitreous glass and stained glass. It can also be used to cut Smalti. The wheeled cutters make cleaner cuts tile gripper. The two carbide wheels (or steel, if you buy cheap cutters) are fixed in position. Rather than make and break, the wheels apply even pressure to the upper and lower sides of the glass, making along the fracture line of the wheels.
The wheels are replaceable and eventually go dull, but not before several thousand cuts. Each wheel is held in place by a screw (usually an Allen screw). Like his cuts become noticeably less clean than when the cutters were new, use a allen wrench to loosen the screws, rotate each wheel about 1/8-inch, then retighten the screws. By changing the location of where each wheel touches the glass, that is, in effect, replace the blades. Take a long time and many courts to use the entire circumference of the wheels, especially if they are of hard metal.
When the wheels eventually become opaque, I suggest buying a completely new tool. The wheels make up the bulk of the cost of the tool, so it does not save much just buy replacement wheels. With a new tool, the wheels are not only sharp, but the rubber grips are new and clean (the rubber is worn and dirty) and the spring is secured in place. Occasionally, the spring release of my blades. The tool works with a spring still loose, but there is nothing to keep the handles spreading too far. When that happens, the spring falls. It's annoying to release the spring, see bounce out of his reach, and then having to leave my chair retrieve it. I tried to permanently welded in place, but did not work because I could not get enough hot metal. So until I buy a new tool, Spring always goes down. Another reason to buy a new tool instead of spare wheel is, if you drop the tool, you can touch the wheels out of alignment. So, after several projects when you think need to replace the wheels, I suggest buying a completely new tool.
When it comes to his new tool, Use an Allen wrench to tighten the screws as tight as possible. Then use a tape recorder, painting, pen (or whatever you have to make a permanent mark) to do a little check mark next to each wheel, where it touches the glass when cut (the two tick marks should line up facing each other). I use a stylus to make marks in passing, so do not have to worry about the paint or ink rub off eventually. After a few hundred cuts, Loosen the screws, turn each wheel a bit, then retighten the screws. After several of these adjustments, the brands have come full circle indicating that it is time to replace the tool (or just the wheels, if preferred).
Do not be surprised if the wheels turn by themselves. No matter how hard you screw down, apparently is not tight enough because the wheels slowly turn themselves from the pressure during the cutting action. After several days and many cuts, I realize the marks and are not aligned directly opposite each other, indicating that the wheels have rotated slightly. Maybe I'm a coward, but I just can not get the screws enough to keep them static. But that's okay with me, because if in turn by them, then you have to do it manually.
