What is the easiest and best way to clean Crome wire wheels?
I have an MGB Roadster with 15 "Crome wire wheels MGC there are some specifications of the rust smalll to wipe out, I would leave before it gets worse.
Auto GLYM used to make a product that was a strong detergent, containing phosphoric acid. The acid neutralize and remove rust, while the detergent to clean awa and dirt, grease, brake dust etc. was easy to use as it could be sprayed or applied with a brush and rubbed and a hose or jet wash., so that rust and dirt is removed with little effort.It should be noted that oxide wheels back quickly if not protected with a coating of WD 40 or 3 in 1 oil. If this product is no longer Auto GLYM available you should try Wonder Wheel is easy to obtain and is probably just as good. This is the best wheel cleaner on the market today, but of course, mainly to the modern alloy wheels, but I think its acid content can be effective in removing rust. Wonder if the wheels do not remove rust the alternative is a 2 phase. First clean and grease the wheels by applying a solvent such as Gunk greaser and rinse. Then apply a specific remover water soluble, such as rust Kurust jelly and rinse again. Protect with WD40 or 3 in 1 oil as before.Chrome wire wheels are good to look at when in perfect conditions, but are difficult to maintain. The ideal answer is to have a set of spare wheels and keep the wheels of wire for the summer, use of dry roads.
